Kids in Tune Spooktacular and Make an Eerie Sound!

Kalamazoo Kids in Tune has been scaring up Halloween spirit all over town this week.

On Thursday, we hosted our annual Spooktacular concert at Woods Lake Elementary, joined by our Middle School Kids in Tune friends, as well as Orchestra Rouh and guest performers from among our parents and community members.  A packed house heard spooktacular music by Strauss, Holst, Williams, and Grieg.  As always, the Kids in Tune Ghostbusters closed the concert!

On Saturday, the Middle School Kids in Tune took park in Make an Eerie Sound event at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum, performing a concert and leading the young holiday museum visitors in an instrument petting zoo.

Kids in Tune Spooktacular Community Play Day: Thursday, October 26th

Kalamazoo Kids in Tune Spooktacular Community Play Day is coming soon!  If you haven’t heard about it yet:  It’s a  late afternoon event on Thursday October 26.   All band and orchestra musicians of all ages are invited to come play great Halloween-themed orchestra music with us! Check out all the details and sign up at this link.

And please tell all your instrumentalist friends.  We’ll rehearse, enjoy snacks and community together, and then play a short concert—beginning with a parade of costumes!

Kids in Tune Community Play Day Sheet Music and Play-Along Videos

Kids in Tune Blasts off for a Journey to The Planets

Our big project this year is Gustav Holst’s The Planets.  Can you name the planet that this rhythm comes from?  Our kids spent the morning working on it…turns out that it’s a bit of a tongue twister.  Try repeating it a few times while counting to 5 and see if you can keep everything in the right place!

Kids in Tune Summer Starts Monday!

The Kids in Tune staff spent Thursday and Friday moving everything we need from our home at Woods Lake to our summer sites:  Arcadia Elementary and Maple Street Middle School.  We’ve got the new lesson and orchestra rooms ready to start Monday morning!
