We’re back! Today was the first day of our 6th year of after-school program at Woods Lake Elementary. Getting reacquainted AND getting started on our music for the October 27th Spooktacular! Thank to Ms. Donielle for these great 1st day pics:
Setting the Stage for a Lifetime of Success
Our new year of Kids in Tune After School at Woods Lake begins Monday, September 19th! We’ll get to work right away preparing for our annual Spooktacular concert in October. We have some new tricks and treats planned for that special event.
In the meantime, please enjoy these scenes from the August 29th KPS faculty/staff kickoff performance. Thanks to Ms. Liz for the photos!
Kalamazoo Kids In Tune congratulates Greg Jennings on his recent retirement from the NFL! We are deeply appreciative of Mr. Jennings’ long held commitment to the youth of Kalamazoo and are grateful to have received support through the Greg Jennings Foundation’s BE GREAT After School Program for four years.
We share the Jennings family’s commitment to “equipping youth for greatness” through outstanding after-school programming. We applaud Greg Jennings on a fantastic decade with the NFL, and a lifetime of inspiring young people to greatness on the field, in the classroom, and in our case, in the orchestra!
Ms Alex –the multi-talented, clarinet-playing youth development worker from the Kids In Tune Summer program — is profiled in the latest post on Jennifer Clark’s blog “Ask me about my 12,000 Kids”. Check it out here.
A beautiful summer morning on the playground. You won’t believe what happens next!
The music is Arturo Marquez’s “Conga del Fuego Nuevo” — one of our summer orchestra pieces. Special thanks to the Kids in Tune staff for their cell phone video!
On Thursday, August 4, Kids in Tune brought our six-week summer session to a joyous close as we performed an hour-long concert for our family and friends. The hall was decorated with projects from our time together: Art projects inspired by countries represented by our program — Italy, Mexico, and Spain, student compositions, and academic work.
Here is a link to a YouTube channel with selected recordings.

Saturday afternoon the Kids in Tune Young Leaders Chamber Orchestra performed at the Mothers of Hope “Ultimate Family Reunion” event in LaCrone Park. Also the KIT Young Leaders provided an instrument petting zoo for attendees of the picnic to try orchestra instruments themselves. Thanks to Liz Youker for her photographs:
What happens when two Kids in Tune flute students have a few minutes between rehearsals? They read a duet! Special thanks to flute teacher Ms. Elizabeth for all the work she’s done with the flutes this summer 🙂
Here’s a cell phone recording that captures beautiful playing by Erica and Naomi:
